Consumer decisions and e-commerce situations are appearing in young people’s everyday lives at an increasingly early age – making it especially important that students receive clear, practical knowledge about their rights and available options already during their school years. With this in mind, on 4 December 2025 the Budapest Conciliation Board (BBT) held a consumer-protection educational session at the Toldy Ferenc Secondary School. The programme was implemented within the framework of the EU-funded FAIRCOMADR project, “Promoting fair commercial practices through alternative dispute resolution in Hungary”.
The presentation was delivered by Dr Beatrix Világos, Head of Office of the BBT, at her alma mater, in an accessible way and linked to the students’ real-life situations. During the session, students learned what conscious consumer behaviour means: what to look out for before making a purchase, which rights consumers have, and what steps can help ensure that a dispute does not “get stuck” but moves towards a solution. Students also learned when conciliation can play a role and how conciliation board proceedings can provide support in consumer disputes.
The session was made especially engaging by a playful, interactive element: a consumer-protection quiz run on the Mentimeter platform, which encouraged participation and helped consolidate the key messages. The feedback clearly showed which topics resonated most with students and where common misunderstandings still needed clarification.
The event on 4 December 2025 was the fourth and final stop of the FAIRCOMADR educational programme series for children and young people. The BBT’s aim is to make consumer protection and the possibilities of conciliation tangible already at a young age—because the foundations of conscious decision-making can also be built in the classroom.
We would like to thank Toldy Ferenc Secondary School for the opportunity to cooperate.
