On 2 October 2025, the Budapest Conciliation Board organised a consumer protection information programme for senior citizens at the Kondor Béla Community Centre. The event was implemented within the framework of the BBT’s EU-funded project entitled “Promoting Fair Commercial Practices through Alternative Dispute Resolution in Hungary (FAIRCOMADR)”.

The presentation What Do I Get for My Money? – Warranty and Guarantee Issues aimed to provide the senior age group with a clear and accessible overview of the most important tools for enforcing consumer rights, with particular attention to everyday situations that occur most frequently. The programme focused on the concept of “accessible consumer protection”: participants were able to learn, through practical examples, in which cases and how they can turn to a conciliation board.

The engaging presentation was delivered by Dr Antónia Kolyvek, member and legal advisor of the Budapest Conciliation Board. At the end of the session, participants also had the opportunity to ask questions related to their individual cases.

During the event, the operation of the conciliation board procedure was presented, including its key characteristics—such as being free of charge, fast and easy to access—as well as the basic rules of complaint handling related to warranties, guarantees and services. Particular emphasis was placed on areas that especially affect senior consumers, including online purchases, disputes related to product demonstrations, and the performance of service contracts.

The programmes implemented within the FAIRCOMADR project aim to increase awareness of the consumer protection institutional system and to ensure that different target groups—including senior citizens—are able to exercise their consumer rights with confidence in everyday situations.

We would like to thank the Kondor Béla Community Centre for its cooperation.
