On 14 October 2025, the Budapest Conciliation Board (BBT) and the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) jointly organised the professional conference “Consumer Protection Updates: Experiences and Challenges 2025”. The event invited key stakeholders of the consumer protection field to think together, with a particular focus on strengthening cooperation within Hungary’s alternative dispute resolution (ADR) network, supporting knowledge sharing, and fostering professional cohesion and a more consistent approach to practice. The conference was implemented within the framework of the EU-funded FAIRCOMADR project.

The morning plenary provided a comprehensive overview of current directions in consumer protection and practical experiences. The conference was opened by Dr Viktória Bódi, Secretary General of BKIK, and Dr Éva Inzelt, President of the BBT.

Among the keynote contributions, Csákiné Dr Krisztina Gyuris, Deputy State Secretary responsible for consumer protection and trade at the Ministry for National Economy, presented the latest legislative developments relevant to consumer protection. Dr Norbert Róbert Eitmann, Press Chief of the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NKFH), outlined the authority’s work and 2025 results.

A panel discussion also examined experiences and lessons learned from consumer complaints related to travel contracts, with the participation of Judit Molnár, President of the Association of Hungarian Travel Agencies (MUISZ), and Dr Éva Inzelt, President of the BBT.

The afternoon thematic workshops supported the exchange of case experience and the alignment of good practice. Participants worked in three groups—travel, energy services, and online commerce—to jointly explore solutions to complex challenges, with special attention to sharing decision-related experience and strengthening a more consistent approach across institutions.

We thank all speakers and participants for their active involvement and valuable professional contributions, supporting consumer trust, fair commercial practices, and the continued development of ADR tools.
