The Budapest Conciliation Board – in the framework of its consumer protection program that was funded by the EU on the basis of its grant titled “Fostering the awareness of fair commercial practices through ADR tools within Hungary (101146134 — SMP-CONS-2023-ADR I FAIRCOMADR) – considers provision of appropriate information on consumer protection particularly important, that is why its goal is to support shaping conscious consumer attitude.
The experience of previous years has shown that mainly people above 65 years of age are mostly affected by unfair trade practices. As a consequence of this the goal of the FAIRCOMADR grant is to deliver relevant information on consumer rights and obligations, dangers arising during purchases and services to as many pensioners as possible, so in the light of them such negative experiences may be reduced.
The consumer target group of pensioners has a prominent role in the FAIRCOMADR project. On 28 November 2024, the Budapest Conciliation Board visited the institution of Social Service of Újbuda, where Dr. Éva Farkas, a member of the Board gave an intriguing presentation, after which participants were able to ask questions as regards to their own consumer complaints.

Related to this program the Budapest Conciliation Board has developed a Consumer Protection Booklet for the pensioners’ age group in which the most important information can be found about consumer rights and obligations and the dangers of shopping in detail. This booklet in printed format was presented to all the participants, so they can further deepen their knowledge and have access to all necessary information.

The project FAIRCOMADR does not only put emphasis on asserting consumers’ rights but also, on making basic principles of fair-trade practices and legal purchases available for the most vulnerable groups. It is in the interest of all of us to know how to make conscious decisions – and the Budapest Conciliation Board has been working to ensure appropriate information is available for as many consumers as possible.
