The Budapest Conciliation Board held an information session at the Municipal Social Services Centre in Budapest’s District XVI, as part of the FAIRCOMADR – “Fostering the awareness of fair commercial practices through ADR tools within Hungary” project, co-funded by the European Union. The event, held on 5 June 2025, aimed to strengthen consumer awareness and promote fair and transparent commercial behaviour through alternative dispute resolution tools.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Antónia Kolyvek, member of the Budapest Conciliation Board, who presented the role, competence and procedure of conciliation boards, highlighting how these institutions support the amicable, quick and cost-free resolution of consumer disputes.

The programme offered practical guidance for senior citizens on everyday consumer decisions, with particular focus on online shopping, misleading advertisements, understanding the rules of warranty and guarantee, and recognising unfair or deceptive online practices. According to the Board’s experience, elderly consumers are particularly vulnerable to such practices, which underlines the importance of providing them with clear and reliable information about their rights.

At the end of the session, participants were invited to share their own experiences and ask questions about specific consumer protection issues, creating an opportunity for open discussion and tailored advice. The event thus served not only as an informative lecture but also as an interactive platform that encouraged the development of a more conscious consumer mindset.
